Following on from our work in schools across Edinburgh, we have developed The Good Food Apprenticeship to give school leavers the confidence, skills, understanding and opportunities to follow a career in food.

The Good Food Apprenticeship

The Good Food Apprenticeship is Edinburgh Food Social’s flagship project, offering those on special timetables and school leavers an incredible programme of seasonal food inspiration; farm visits, practical cookery skills, chef masterclasses and work placements.

After 3 months of foundation skills with Steve and the EFS team, each student chooses 4 local businesses to experience the world of work including restaurants, events companies, bakers and cafes. These businesses have been hand-picked by the team at Edinburgh Food Social as they represent the highest standards of food production, sourcing and care for their teams.

The final 3 months of the apprenticeship sees each student choose the business that they feel most aligned with, working towards full time employment.

The Good Food Apprenticeship is an invaluable tool in teaching young people about local, sustainable food and the results that we have seen from our initial projects have been wonderful, taking young people with complex back stories and giving them the confidence and practical skills to succeed in the food industry.

Buy Vouchers

A great way to support our social enterprise is to buy a voucher that can be used as a gift.

Book a Class

Our classes and workshops focus on sharing the stories behind our food; the growers, farmers and producers as well as giving attendees the skills to create beautiful dishes to share with family and friends.

Book a Dinner

Our dinners are hugely popular and welcome guests to experience delicious dishes in the company of like-minded people, often with guests ranging from growers to food activists.
