At Edinburgh Food Social, we believe everyone should feel confident and informed when handling food — whether you’re cooking for customers, your community, or your family. Understanding the basics of food hygiene helps keep everyone safe, builds confidence in the kitchen, and opens doors to new opportunities in food and hospitality.
Whether you’re already in the kitchen, volunteering in your community, or looking to boost your CV for a future in catering, this one-day course will help you build confidence, learn essential food safety skills and cook with care.
Over seven hours (including a short assessment), you’ll explore:
How bacteria behave — and how to stop them spreading
The causes and prevention of food poisoning
Good personal hygiene and safe working habits
Creating a clean, well-organised workspace
Common food pests and how to control them
Food safety laws and why they matter
This course meets the requirements of EU Regulation 852/2004 and the UK Food Hygiene Regulations (2006). So by the end, you’ll know how to prepare food safely at work and at home — and you’ll take away a recognised qualification to prove it.
